1) Bathroom Paint Color
Paint is widely recognized as the most fabulous, fastest, and cheapest transformation. The bathroom is a small room, but a big painting job. Don’t let the size fool you!
Of all the rooms in a home, the bathroom is the most challenging for simple reason of painting around fixtures and tight spaces.
Make sure the toilet area is very clean, because you will be getting up close and personal with it as you paint around and behind it!
Choose Paint Color To harmonize with the flooring and fixtures.
Remember that blending colors creates flow, fusing ‘edges’ and makes the room ‘larger’. Contrasting color creates sharp ‘stopping’ edges interrupting the flow and therefore ‘size’.
Consult with your paint expert on durable wipe-able paint. Bathroom steam and sink splash create water marks that you will want to wipe clean. The ceiling, if stippled, will require different paint than the walls.
Deeper colors will work well with sufficient light, both natural daytime light and artificial light. Light is a key element in any room & especially here! I cannot say enough that adequate efficient light is the most important interior design element.
2) Bathroom Decorating Ideas Painting Cabinets
As long as the cabinets are in good shape, fresh paint and new hardware does wonders to brighten tired out-dated surfaces and finishes.
I always recommend oil based paints for trim, doors and cabinets. Yes I know they are recommending water based, but my opinion, based on experience is that these are just not up to hard wear.
Laminate surfaces require a melamine type of paint.
Cabinets may be facelifted by replacing the doors and facing. If the cabinets are sound this is an excellent renewal for kitchen as well as bathroom - however it isn't as 'cheap' as you may have heard!
BATHROOM VANITIES
Modern Vanity Designs evolve. Stylized consoles and pedestals are taking the place of cabinets. A case for practicality is the the need for storage. You will have to weigh your decor needs in this decision.
3) Painting Tile and Counters?
This is more cosmetic than truly functional. I don’t recommend it except as a temporary fix. There are terrific paints especially for this use, but refrain from using it on counter surfaces unless you just need it a short time. It will hold up for light use, but easily scuffs. I’ve seen it – it’s disappointing.
A temporary fix of this sort for resale is unacceptable. Buyers will not trust it – for good reason - unless you are clear up front and they acknowledge it will need work at some point. Your call!
